Lettered four times each in cross country, indoor and outdoor track from 2005-09 … The fourth person to be selected for CU's Athletic Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility ... At Colorado, she earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team and two U.S. IAAF Championship teams … Was a seven-time All-American (four in outdoor track, two in cross country, one indoor), which included four NCAA Individual titles (three in the steeplechase and one in the indoor 3,000-meter run); that is tied for the most in school history in any sport … Was a 12-time All-Big 12 honoree (nine track, three cross country) and was a seven-time all-region performer (four track, three cross country) … Led CU to three Big 12 cross country titles with runner-up finishes as a freshman, sophomore and junior (2005-06-07); she claimed the individual title as a senior in 2009 when the Buffs finished second … Set the American record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:12.50) … Won three international meets (two in the steeplechase, one in the 5,000-meter run) while racing in a CU uniform … Set collegiate records in the indoor mile (4:25.91), 3,000-meter run (8:42.03) and the 5,000 (15:01.70), as well outdoors in the 1,500-meter run (3:59.90), steeplechase (9:25.54) and 5,000 (15:07.64) … Also set seven CU school records and set numerous stadium records across the nation … Her times in the indoor 3k and 5k were the fifth fastest in the world during the 2009 season (first and second, respectively, by an American) and her mile was the fastest of the year … At the time, she became the third fastest U.S. woman in the 1,500 at the Prefontaine Classic (3.59.90) … Won a pair of USATF Outdoor Championships, both in the steeplechase … CU’s Co-Female Athlete of the Year for 2006-07 and solo recipient for 2008-09 (just the second to be honored twice at the time in 25 years of the award) … Barringer ended her career being named the first-ever winner of the Bowerman for being the nation’s top female athlete in the sport of track and field. Considered the Heisman trophy of track, Barringer remains the only distance female athlete to win the award ... She has gone on to have an outstanding professional career: A three-time Olympian (2008-12-16), twice as a professional, and won the bronze medal in the 1,500 in 2016; the women didn’t compete in the 1,500 until the 1972 Olympics, and she became the first American woman to medal when doing so in the event in Rio de Janeiro (the 12th Olympiad with the event for women) … Has won four USATF Indoor titles and has claimed seven USATF Outdoor championships … Also the 2011 World Champion (1,500) and 2014 Diamond League Champion (1,500) … Was the 1,500-meter runner-up at the 2013 and 2017 World Championships … Set the American outdoor 2-mile record (9:16.78) and the indoor 2-mile record (9:18.35) … Was also a part of the American record setting Distance Medley Relay … Born August 23, 1986 in Webster City, Iowa, and graduated from Oviedo (Fla.) High School, where she was an eight-time state champion (five track, three cross country).
