February 25, 2007 | Tennis

BOULDER ? For the second straight day, the result was the same for the University of Colorado tennis team with a 7-0 blanking of Northern Colorado, Sunday afternoon at the Millennium Hotel Harvest House. The victory comes on the heels of the Buffaloes 7-0 shutout of Big 12 Conference foe Iowa State on Saturday.

CU has won three straight matches and with the victory equals their 6-2 start of the 2005 spring campaign. The victory over the Bears (2-7) was CU's 13th straight and 26th of 28 over their in-state competitors.

The home team scored first sweeping all three doubles slots for a 1-0 lead.

CU's No. 47 nationally ranked doubles team of Camila Belassi and Gleisy Torres Torres won their sixth straight match and seventh overall defeating Christina Shelly and Tabatha Knop, 8-3.

At No. 2 doubles, Franziska Jendrian and Monica Milewski rolled to an 8-1 win over Karen Groll and Renee Nuccio for their sixth triumph of the spring and eighth overall; and at No. 3, Melisa Esposito and Martina Sedivec remained perfect at 3-0 with an 8-3 winner over Meredith Krystofik and Tiffany Knop, 8-3.

Sedivec's win also improves her overall doubles record to an impressive 11-1 this year.

CU has won the doubles point in seven of eight matches this season.

In singles, the Buffaloes didn't skip a beat rolling to six straight-set winners beginning with a trio of 6-0, 6-0 decisions.

Milewski and Jendrian, and Torres Torres did not allow their opponent to win a game rolling 6-0, 6-0 winners at the No. 1, No. 4, and No. 5 singles positions, respectively.

Belassi, Nurmi and Esposito rounded out the scoring with each of their straight victories at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 slots, respectively.

Overall for the dual season, Torres Torres won her seventh singles match, followed by Belassi, Esposito, Jendrian and Milewski each winning their sixth, while Nurmi won her fifth.

The Buffs back-to-back shutouts of Iowa State and Northern Colorado was the first time since the 1997-98 season when CU blanked their opponents in consecutive matches.

CU travels to No. 35 BYU on March 2 and returns home to play conference rival No. 13 Baylor on March 4.
