KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of Colorado tennis team's bid to advance into the post-season conference tournament came to an end Friday night, falling to No. 5 seed and No. 71 ranked Oklahoma State, 4-1 in the quarterfinal round at the 2007 Big 12 Tennis Championships played at the Plaza Tennis Courts.

The match originally scheduled at 11 a.m. (MST) was delayed for four hours and 45 minutes and finally commenced at 6:05 p.m. (MST).

Oklahoma State (17-7) avenges an earlier season loss at Boulder and moves into the semifinals to play top-seeded and defending champion Baylor (20-6) on Saturday.

Colorado's (16-8) six-match winning streak comes to an end and now waits until the NCAA Tournament Selection Show, Tuesday, May 1 to see if they will receive an At-Large bid in the 64-team field.

Freshman Melisa Esposito won her seventh straight match and was the lone CU player to earn a point recording her 18th singles win of the year defeating Jennifer Poskitt 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 6 position. Esposito also notched her 16th dual triumph and 13th winner at the No. 6 slot.

The No. 4 seed and No. 35 nationally ranked Buffaloes did see junior Veera Nurmi fight back from a set down to even her match against Natalia Shatkovskaya, 2-6, 7-6 at the No. 3 slot; as did junior Gleisy Torres Torres leading Marta Tsivka at No. 5, 6-2, 4-5.

The Buffs lost at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 singles slots.

CU began the day falling in two of the three doubles matches.

The Buffaloes won the No. 2 slot with Franziska Jendrian and Monica Milewski defeating Lauren Simmons and Iryna Tkachenko, 8-4. It was Jendrian/Milewski's 16th win in the dual season and 15th victory at the No. 2 position. They have also won six of their last seven matches.

After OSU took the No. 3 slot upsetting the previous unbeaten team of Esposito and Martina Sedivec, 8-2, the No. 1 team of Torres Torres and Camila Belassi rallied from a 5-3 deficit to subsequently fall in tie breaker, 9-8(4).

Match Notes: CU is now 2-5 when the losing the doubles point (wins were Oklahoma State, Denver), 14-2 when the winning the point ... CU's 16 team victories and nine conference wins are the most since the 1999 season ...
