Tennis Sweeps Fourth Straight Foe

BOULDER- The University of Colorado tennis team scored their fourth consecutive sweep for the first time in school history, blanking Kansas State 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the Millennium Harvest House.

Colorado improved to 6-6 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12. Kansas State is now 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12. The Buffs lead the overall series 19-10 and have won four of the last five matches.

The Buffaloes defeated No. 55 Kansas last Friday, Yale on Mar. 11, and Missouri back on Mar. 8, all by 7-0 decisions.

Kansas State is a great team,” said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. “The girls did a really great job showing up today. I was really happy with how they played. They played well from the first point to the last point.”

CU held on to all the doubles points, starting with Gleisy Torres Torres and Abbie Probert's 8-0 triumph over Vanessa Cottin and Natasha Vieria at the No. 3 spot. Torres Torres and Probert have won their last six consecutive matches. Monica Milewksi and Camila Belassi claimed the No. 1 spot with an 8-3 win over Olga Klimova and Katka Kudlackova. At No. 2, Melisa Esposito and Franziska Jendrian scored an 8-5 victory over Viviana Yrureta and Viviana Yrureta, their eighth straight win.

Veera Nurmi landed her 67th career singles victory with her 6-0, 6-1 win over KSU's Cottin at the No. 4 spot. Belassi took the No. 2 singles spot in three, defeating Huljev 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. At No. 5, Esposito scored a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Vieira. Torres Torres recorded her 68th career singles victory with her 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 triumph over Katka Kudlackova.

Milewski and Jendrian have each won 53 career singles victories.

The win is Colorado's fifth consecutive win of the spring season.

Colorado will hit the road for three straight matches. The Buffs will take on Louisiana State on Mar. 26 at 2 p.m. in their first meeting since 1987. CU will then travel to Baylor on Mar. 28 and Texas Tech on Mar. 30.
