LAWRENCE, Kan. ? The University of Colorado tennis team swept the doubles point then took four of six singles slots in straight sets for a 5-2 win over the Kansas Jayhawks, Friday afternoon at the First Serve Tennis Center.

The victory was the third in a row for the Buffaloes improving to 3-0 in the Big 12 Conference and 7-5 overall. KU drops to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

The 3-0 conference start is the third straight year the Buffs have begun conference play winning their first three matches in a row. It was also the fourth straight win over the Jayhawks and sixth straight win in Lawrence since 1999.

CU is ranked No. 60 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll secured the doubles point for the fifth time this season for a 1-0 advantage. Abbie Probert and Michala Hedelund Jensen defeated the team of Dorn/Wilbert, 8-2 at No. 3, while CU clinched the point at No. 2 as Franziska Jendrian and Ania Anuszkiewicz edged Svistun/Martinez, 9-8.

The doubles victory for Jendrian was her school-record leading 73rd over her outstanding four-year career.

The Buffaloes made it a clean sweep at the No. 1 slot as Melisa Esposito and Camila Belassi broke a five-match losing streak defeating Horvath/Morozova, 8-4.

With a 1-0 lead, the visiting team had little trouble with Kansas in singles play taking four of the next six positions in straight sets.

Anuszkiewicz won her first singles match since Jan. 30 (seven losses) defeating Erin Wilbert, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6; Belassi won her second straight match defeating Ekaterina Morozova, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2; and Esposito clinched her first team victory of the spring taking a 7-5, 6-2 winner over Edina Horvath at the No. 1 slot.

It was Esposito's third straight win, 18th of the year and 57th of her career.

Jendrian rounded out the scoring for CU at No. 4 defeating Kunigunda Dorn, 6-4, 7-5 for her team-leading 21st singles triumph of the year and her 81st career. The 81 singles victories ties Jendrian with Jessica Garrow (1997-2000) for sixth place on the school's all-time singles list.

KU managed to take two singles positions at No. 3 and No. 5.

“I'm happy with the energy and effort from the team,” CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. “The Big 12 is always tough and Kansas played a good match. It was a good day for the Buffaloes today.”

CU travels to Kansas State on Sunday, March 22 for a 10 a.m. (MDT) match.
