QUICKLY: First Starts: DE Chidera Uzo-Diribe made his first career start; PK Justin Castor got in for his first plays (four kickoffs) since his only previous play (FGA at Missouri) .... CB Terrel Smith made his first career interception in the second quarter (the first true freshman to do so since Curtis Cunningham had one vs. Florida State in Jacksonville in 2008) ... S Travis Sandersfeld had his second career interception (other was in season opener vs. CSU); he returned it 16 yards-CU's' first nine of the year were returned for a combined 15 yards ... TE DaVaughn Thornton had the receiver version of the double-double: his first career catch late in the first half (12 yards) went for a touchdown ... The second quarter interception ended a streak of 10 straight quarters in school history without a turnover, tying the school mark (third time its been done) ... Opponents were 0-of-4 on onsides since CSU recovered one in the 2007 season opener ... Kansas was 11-of-16 on third down, the first team to convert over 50 percent on third down against CU in 22 games ... Colorado has now dropped 16 overall road games and 12 straight conferences away games (both school records) ... The 45 points by Colorado are the most the Buffaloes have ever scored in losing a game; the previous high was 30 years ago on Oct. 4, 1980, when CU lost to Oklahoma in Boulder, 82-42 ... Injuries: none reported.
SCORING EXPLOSION: Colorado's 35 first half points eclipsed its high point total for a game this year (31 vs. Hawai'i), and tied its most in a first half (vs. North Texas in '04) since leading Nebraska 42-23 at halftime in 2001. It tied the most in any half (with 35 at Toledo last year) since putting 41 on the board against Nebraska in the second half in 2007 (a 65-51 win). Note: Kansas' 35 fourth quarter points are not the most by an opponent in a single quarter (Nebraska had 48 in the third quarter in a 69-19 win in Lincoln in 1983). The 97 combined points by CU & KU are the fifth most in a game in CU annals, tying the 2003 CU-KU game in Boulder that the Buffs won 50-47 in OT.
OPPONENT COMEBACK This marked the largest lead CU ever held in a game, 28 points (38-10, 45-17) that the Buffaloes did not win; the previous largest comeback by any opponent was 21 points, done twice, ironically the first time 60 years ago in this stadium: CU led Kansas 21-0 with 5:45 left in the third quarter and lost, 27-21 on Oct, 7, 1950. The other time was on Nov. 10, 2007, when CU led Iowa State 21-0 in Ames but eventually succumbed, 31-28.
SECOND QUARTER KU BLUES: Colorado has scored 45 points in the second quarter against Kansas the last two seasons; the 21 points today were the most in any quarter by CU since scoring 24 in the second stanza in last year's 34-30 win in Boulder.
TB RODNEY STEWART (27-175, 3 TD) He rushed for career highs for yards (175) and touchdowns (3), and moved ahead of Cortlen Johnson (2,199), Lamont Warren (2,242) and Lee Rouson (2,296) into 10th place all-time on CU's rushing list with 2,338 yards. His 19 career rushing touchdowns are now 17th all-time. He also became the first Buff to score three via rushing in a game since Hugh Charles had three versus Nebraska on Nov. 23, 2007. His 219 all-purpose yards (44 receiving) was the first time he eclipsed the 200-yard mark.
QB CODY HAWKINS (44-29-2, 322, 3 TD) He moved into first in all-time attempts (1,139) and into second place in all-time passing yards (6,778), as he jumped Kordell Stewart (6,481); Joel Klatt leads with 7,375. He had a streak of 114 straight passes without an interception end in the second quarter, the second longest streak in CU annals (Klatt has the top one at 139). His quarterback rating for the first half was 191.15 (when he completed 20-of-24 passes for 215 yards and 3 TD).
WR SCOTTY McKNIGHT (4-59, 0 TD) He extended his NCAA-active best regular season streak to 45 games with at least one reception (every game of his career, 46 including postseason; East Carolina's Dwayne Harris is next with 40).
WR PAUL RICHARDSON (11-141, 2 TD) He set school records for most catches (11) and yards (141) by a freshman, true or redshirt, in CU history, and tied the mark he set with two TDs in a single game against Texas Tech two weeks ago. The 11 receptions also tied the school's overall mark for catches in a game previously done by five different players (a total of five times). He now has four TD receptions this season, also setting a school record for the most receiving touchdowns by a true freshman in school history (Donnie Holmes had the old mark of three in 1979).
