Colorado-Wyoming Notes

December 21, 2014 | Women's Basketball

GAME FLOW NOTES
- Jen Reese scored Colorado's first 10 points of the game (she missed her first shot and then made five in a row).
- Neither team led by more than four in the first half, and each did so just once: Wyoming 4-0 and CU 12-8 (at the 13:52 mark; the remainder of the first half saw the teams always within one basket of each other). There were 11 ties and 14 lead changes in the first half.
- First Half: this was the second highest scoring first half for CU in a game this season, both in terms of CU points (41) and combined (83); CU led San Jose State 50-46 at intermission (also just the second time the foe reached 40).
- Colorado has now trailed five times this season at the half: by 3, 1, 1, 7 and 1 points (posting a 3-2 record).
- The first 5-plus point lead of the game came with 15:20 remaining when UW took a 53-47 lead.
- Wyoming outscored CU by just 9-5 in an 8:53 stretch early in the second half when the Buffs went without a field goal (0-of-10, all five CU points from the line); UW led, 58-50.
- A Jen Reese jumper ended that drought and triggered a 10-1 CU run over the next 3:24 in which CU regained the lead, 60-59. UW went 7:35 without a field goal as well in this window, scoring two single free throws between the 12:11 and 4:36 marks.
- Hot & Cold: combining the first and last 10 minutes of the game, Colorado was 15-of-22 from the field (68.2%); UW was 12-of-36 (33.3%).

QUICKLY Game time was 1:50; the attendance on this breezy Sunday afternoon was 2,371 ... F Zoe Beard-Fails and G Brecca Thomas made their first career starts for the Buffs; G Lexy Kresl (leg injury) was held out for precautionary reasons ... CU shot 57.7 percent in the first half (15-of-26), its best first half percentage this season and the third time at 50 percent or better to open the game (it was the second-best for any half: it shot 63.2% against Arkansas State, 12-of-19) ... Colorado shot 50 percent for the game (25-of-50), its second best shooting performance of the year (52.0 vs. Arkansas State, 26-of-50) ... Wyoming committed just 12 turnovers, but six of the game in the last 10 minutes of the game ... CU is now 5-0 when four or more players score in double figures (7-0 with three or more), and is now 1-2 in games decided by five points or less.
- Colorado is 7-3 on the season (the 28th time is has opened a year with at least seven wins in the first 10 games; all five times under Linda Lappe), and after the Christmas holiday, resume action on Dec. 30 at home against Long Beach State (7 p.m.)

NOT IN OUR HOUSE Colorado, playing in its 36th season in the Coors Event Center, recorded its 400th win in the building (which opened Nov. 8, 1979); the Buffaloes are 400-136 (.746) in the confines of the CEC (6-1 this season).

CU Coach Linda Lappe The seventh head coach in CU history is now 90-56 in her fifth season (11-8 postseason). Lappe is 140-91 overall in eight seasons as a college head coach. She is 43-7 when combining the first 10 games of each of her first five seasons at the reins of her alma mater.

SERIES Colorado now leads the series 37-9, with a 22-2 edge in Boulder; CU has won five in a row and 34 of the last 38. This was the first time both schools scored 70 or more points since the Nov. 29, 2000 game (a 78-70 CU win); it's just the third time in 46 games both have reached 70 (all CU wins; Wyoming scored 70-plus for just the fourth time in the series).

POST-FALL FINAL EXAMS Colorado is now 27-13 all-time in the first game following the fall final exam period (19-6 in the last 25). The first season of CU's women's basketball in '74-75 started in January, thus the total is one off the number of seasons in school history (41).
