Colorado-Long Beach State Quotes

General
"You've got to give Long Beach State a lot of credit. They are now 13-1 for a reason. They do a lot of nice things offensively and defensively. They play together really well. And they are tough, making key plays when they need to. The difference of the game was that they got four more shots than we did, and made a couple of extra shots. We turned the ball over way to many times, and had far too many possessions were we didn't get a shot. We rebounded the ball very well and crashed the offensive glass well. Just our inability to pass the ball and hit the open player, and not making the right reads really hurt us in this game."
Zone Causing Problems Offensively
"They cover space fast and take away passing lanes. They really make you put the ball on the floor and you have to make your open shots. I felt that we were tentative on taking the open jumpers. We worked on pull up jumpers all week, but we took very few of them tonight. Instead we tried to pass around the defense and tried to make the extra pass when we should have shot. But they are active, they cover areas really quickly. You think you have an opening and then they slice in there and take it away. I think part of it was them, but I also think part of it was us. In the way we handled their aggressiveness, we didn't attack it like we needed to. We really just didn't take the shots that we normally take and that we want to take."
On The Play Of Zoe Beard-Fails and Jamee Swan
"We knew that we would have an advantage in the post. And both Zoe and Jamee have been playing really well. I thought their energy, and toughness were two things that they brought. Zoe did a nice job in the beginning of the game getting us started, and Jamee did a nice job throughout the first half. I thought they were both consistent throughout the game and that was good to see. They didn't have spurts of doing really good things and then hide for a long time. (We just ) needed more, we needed to be able to hit some outside shots. But I felt that every time they got the ball they made great decisions. They didn't make every shot, which they're never going to, but they did a nice job of staying with it and staying aggressive and staying confident."
On Any Concerns Heading Into Conference Play
"Well our turnovers, and our inability to get the ball where it needs to go. Like I said, I think half of those turnovers were them and I think half of them were ours. I don't think there was any need for a large majority of them. We really missed Lexy Kresl tonight, but there's no excuses. When a player goes down you have other players who need to be ready to step up. We had that against Wyoming, but we didn't have that today and that really hurt us. Just getting her (Lexy Kresl) healthy and getting her back on the court at full speed is really important."

On rebounding and interior play
"In practice, as a post, we are told we have one job and it's to rebound so we take a lot of pride in getting every rebound. I think our rebounding does help our offense in being able draw the outside in, to get outside shots."
On it being a winnable game
"I like to walk away thinking every game is a winnable game. It just comes down to hustle plays and who pushes and holds out until the end. We have to work on finishing we talk about it all the time ."

On the grind it out style of this game
"I think every game we play always comes down to hustle play. When we got down, our big thing was we need to make the extra play, do things like force turnovers, take charges, do the extra stuff to give us momentum."
On it being a winnable game
"We've been starting (slow) having to catch up when we're down. A big thing Coach Lappe tells us is to not get down in the first place. We need to work on staying with it and keeping up when we can instead of letting ourselves get down and having to work back up."
