Colorado-USC Quotes

Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe
General
"I thought we did some really good things in that game. We didn't start off really well and that hurt us a lot as we played on. It seemed like we never could quite catch up, get some momentum and get some fire. I wish that our run at the end of the first half was better timed. I wish there were a couple more minutes to use our momentum effectively. I thought Jamee [Swan] and Jas [Sborov] did a nice job of getting offensive rebounds and shots at that point, but we'll just regroup and get better. You have to give USC a lot of credit, they came in here with a lot of confidence and played hard."
On Where The Team Stands With Recent Struggles
"We definitely have to get better. We have to come to work every day ready to go. I do think we have gotten better in those games, which is a great thing. If you look at the stats, there's one that stands out to you, and that's turnovers. Once we can figure that out I have no doubt that we can get better. If you look at that team and what we had offensively the difference was that we needed to get a little tougher defensively and making it a little harder to score on us. They had those 22 points off of our turnovers. If we limit those to 10 it's a totally different game at halftime and through the second half. It's totally different because we have a shot to win and they're on the road, we're at home with our crowd. It's about doing the little things. Pass fakes, going to the ball and getting a little sharper with the ball. I think it's controllable. We're not bad ball-handlers or passers, we just have to be on the same page and execute."
On The Difference In The Past Two Games
"The biggest thing is turnovers. We had over 20 against Cal, which led to most of their points in transition and that's much like today. I think we struggled defending in the half court more today. They got to the free throw line a lot. They shot 31 free throws and we shot 11, so there's 20 points right there. We have to find a way to get some foul calls and get to the free throw line. Not only that, we have to cut down on our fouls."

On Working Through Turnover's
"Just having confidence, handling the ball and attacking pressure. We have to be able to know that we can do it. And once we're comfortable in our sets and we know who to hit, then the turnovers will go away. We just have to attack. When you aren't aggressive you make more mistakes."

On The Team Starting The Game Slowly
"I think it's just a mindset change. We just have to realize that we're good enough to come out fast, and that no matter what we can't come out slow because that's just not how we play or who we are."
On Finishing First Half Strong
"I think that it gave us confidence going into the second half, knowing that we were in the game and that we were going to be able to make a push at the end. It just came down to turnovers and who wanted it more."
