CU Spirit Nationals Showcase Set For Monday
January 07, 2020 | Spirit
BOULDER – The University of Colorado's spirit teams will be hosting a nationals showcase event on Monday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. at the CU Events Center.
CU's spirit teams will perform their nationals routines ahead of the UCA & UDA College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championships, which will be held at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 17-20.
The Buffs will compete in four different categories at nationals:
Chip the Buffalo – Chip is heading to nationals with his highest preliminary placement ever as his video qualification makes up 50 percent of the score and he is currently ranked No. 2 nationally after the video. The remaining 50 percent of his score will be based on his skit performance at nationals. Chip has previously won two national titles in 2009 and 2010.
Dance Team – CU's dance team is competing in two categories, D1A jazz and pom. They are in an incredibly competitive division and are looking to place on the finals floor this season. They have had several top-10 finishes in recent years.
All Girl Cheer – CU's all girl cheer team has been the most consistent finals contender for CU in recent years, routinely placing in the top eight. They have a goal of being a top-five team this season, which will be as challenging as ever with the division even larger and more competitive this season.
Coed Cheer – CU's coed cheer team is continuing to build its reputation on the nationals stage in the very competitive Division 1A. With many powerhouse universities having one stacked coed team, this year's squad is looking to make its first-ever finals appearance in this division.
