Freshman goalkeeper Elena Oh earns her fifth conference honor of the season

BOULDER – Colorado lacrosse's freshman goalkeeper Elena Oh (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill HS) was awarded Big 12 Freshman of the Week, the Conference announced Tuesday, April 8.

This marks the ninth weekly honor for the Buffs this season and Oh's fifth after being named Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week four times in a row earlier this season. The only other player in Colorado program history to achieve five conference awards in a single season was Darby Kiernan, who was Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week five times, including three consecutive, in 2018 (Feb. 26, March 12, April 9, April 16, April 23). The only other players to receive weekly awards three or more times in a season are Johnna Fusco for MPSF Rookie of the Week (2014; Feb. 17, March 24, April 28), Paige Soenksen for MPSF Defensive Player of the Week (2015; March 23, April 7, April 23, April 27), and Miranda Stinson for Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week (2019; Feb. 18, March 11, March 18).

Oh recorded three saves against Arizona State last weekend, one in clutch time to end the game (April 6). Down one going into the final four minutes, the Sun Devils were itching for a goal to push it to overtime. With 29 seconds remaining, ASU managed to get a shot off from Lydia Oldknow, but Oh pulled off the big save to help the Buffs put it away, 14-13. Oh currently leads the Big 12 in goals against average with 9.84, and she is fourth in the Conference for save percentage .422 (62 saves). She is also fourth in conference for saves per game (6.89). Her numbers for goals against average put her at 21st in the NCAA, and she is 69th for save percentage.

The Buffs open Big 12 play at home next weekend with No. 4 Florida on Saturday, April 12, at Prentup Field. Opening draw against the Gators is set for 11 a.m. MT. All upcoming Big 12 games will be carried live on ESPN+.
