CU Alumni Make Moves on First Day at USATF Outdoors

McAuthur, Jones, Constien and Hurta-Klecker advances to finals.
EUGENE, Ore. — Four former Colorado Buffaloes advanced during the opening day of the 2025 USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at Hayward Field, while several others also competed on the national stage.
Women's 1,500 Meters (First Round)
Former Buffs Rachel McArthur and Dani Jones both secured spots in the semifinals.
The championships will set the field for Team USA at the NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean) Championships, from August 15-17 in Freeport, The Bahamas, and World Championships in Tokyo this September.
Women's 1,500 Meters (First Round)
Former Buffs Rachel McArthur and Dani Jones both secured spots in the semifinals.
- Rachel McArthur (ASICS) ran a personal best 4:04.80 to place fourth in her heat and advance automatically.
- Dani Jones (New Balance) clocked 4:07.13 to place fifth in her heat and advanced on time.
- Val Constien (Nike Swoosh TC/WCS), a two-time Olympian and current U.S. leader, advanced with ease. She placed second in her heat in 9:37.56.
- Sage Hurta-Klecker (OAC/WCS) claimed an automatic qualifying spot, winning her heat in 1:59.28.
- Abby Nichols (HOKA NAZ Elite) placed 15th overall in 33:38.06. She ran consistently through the early laps before fading slightly in the final stages of the race.
- Jada Green, who holds the CU school record, placed seventh with a top mark of 51.15 meters (167-9). She secured a spot in the final on her third throw (50.31m) and improved to her best on the fourth attempt.
- Kole Mathison, the lone current CU athlete competing, posted a time of 8:44.45 to finish 13th in his heat. He did not advance.
- James Miholes will compete in the 400-meter semifinals on Thursday.
- The women's 1,500-meter and steeplechase finals will take place Saturday, while the women's 800-meter final is scheduled for Sunday.
