Plaza Outside CU Events Center to Commemorate Iconic Women’s Basketball Coach

The University of Colorado Boulder will officially dedicate "Ceal Barry Plaza" outside the CU Events Center on January 25 before the women's basketball team takes on Oklahoma State. The renaming of the plaza and surrounding festivities, which are a part of the university's 150th anniversary celebration, honor Barry, a true pioneer in women's basketball and the Buffaloes' winningest head coach.

The dedication will consist of a short ceremony at noon at the plaza, which is located on the west side of the Events Center near the Buffalo statue.  The public is invited to attend.  There will also be a recognition of Barry at halftime of the game.

As head coach of the CU women's basketball team from 1983-2005, Barry was the winningest coach in team history by recording 427 victories. She led the Buffaloes to four regular season Big 8 titles, five conference tournament championships, three appearances in the NCAA tournament's Sweet 16, and three appearances in the Elite Eight. She has been inducted into the CU Athletics Hall of Fame, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, and the National Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. After her coaching career, she spent over 15 years as CU Athletics' Senior Woman Administrator before retiring in 2020.

Tickets are available now, starting at just $8 for a general admission ticket or $22 for a reserved seat in honor of Barry's 22 years as coach of the Buffs and her three Elite Eight appearances.
