BOULDER – The Colorado women's basketball team dominated Morgan State 83-38 in their season opener Wednesday night at the CU Events Center.
The Buffs improve to 1-0 (0-0 Big 12) on the year while Morgan State falls to 1-1 (0-0 MEAC).
It was a balanced night offensively as 13 players got on the board and the Buffs registered 49 bench points. Leading the charge was senior guard Zyanna Walker with 11 points, a game-high seven rebounds, four steals and two assists. Sophomore forward Logyn Greer, and freshman guards Cail Jahnke and Lauren Harris also finished in double-digits.
"I'm really proud of a lot of things we did tonight. So much to improve on and lots of good things to celebrate, being the first game of the season. But I thought we played really hard," Head Coach JR Payne said.
The Buffaloes put on an efficient performance, shooting 49.2% from the field, 33.3% from three and 79.2% from the foul line. They racked up 40 points in the paint and 19 fastbreak points.
"It was just so much fun to get out there in front of the Buff fans for the first time, especially with these girls working so hard in practice. So to be able to put it together a little bit and see in the first game was a lot of fun," Jahnke said.
Colorado's defense also held strong, forcing 19 turnovers while holding the Bears to under 10 points in the first half. MSU shot just 25% from the field, making only 15 shots on the night.
