SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Former Colorado tight end Brady Russell is a Super Bowl champion.

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX, leaning on a dominant defensive effort and standout special teams play.

Russell served as the Seahawks' special teams captain, and the unit delivered a historic performance. Seattle's field goal unit set a Super Bowl record by converting all five attempts. The punt unit averaged 47.9 yards on seven punts and pinned New England inside its own 10-yard line three times. Russell logged a team-high 32 special teams snaps and added multiple tackle assists in the victory.

With the championship, Colorado continues a recent run of professional title winners. Former Buff Derrick White won an NBA championship with the Boston Celtics in 2024, while Jaylyn Sherrod captured a WNBA title with the New York Liberty that same year.

Russell is the first Buffalo to win a Super Bowl since Nate Solder earned the title in Super Bowl LI with New England following the 2016 season. Overall, 66 Colorado athletes have appeared in the Super Bowl between Super Bowl I and Super Bowl LX, accounting for 29 total Super Bowl championships. Overall, CU has had 75 players combine for 112 appearances in either the Super Bowl or NFL Championship Game.  Counting those NFL Championship Games that preceded the Super Bowl, Russell is the 41st player to win a title and those players have accounted for 63 wins.

The legacy dates back to Boyd Dowler, who played in and won the first two Super Bowls. Ted Johnson, Cliff Branch and Tom Ashworth each won three Super Bowls. Solder and Johnson each appeared in four Super Bowls, Solder winning two.
