Tennis Spotlight: Pia Rebec is Resilient and Steady

April 02, 2026 | Tennis

BOULDER – Colorado Tennis junior Pia Rebec has succeeded time and time again since her freshman year as a Buffalo, and continues to show a hard fight on and off the court.

Since 2023, Rebec has stood out for the Buffs in both singles and doubles action. As a freshman, she recorded a 10-14 singles record and a 16-9 doubles mark, also capturing the ITA Rookie of the Year Award, the first for CU since 2018.

Pia has grown a lot, and has been a starter for us since day one, head coach Anthony Pham said, she has great leadership skills, and even as a freshman she was never afraid to step up and speak Tennis Spotlight: Pia Rebec is Resilient and Ready

As a sophomore, Rebec continued to prove herself with 13 singles victories and another 16 doubles wins, 11 of which were in dual competition.

I have been doing the best I can through the years, said Rebec. And I work on being a better version of myself from previous years, continuing to find a fight every match.

So far this season, Rebec has notched 18 singles victories, including 8 in dual competition. One of which was an impressive straight set upset over No. 22 Rose Marie Nijkamp of Oklahoma State, a firming point in Colorado's upset over the Cowgirls.

The win also placed her in the first national rankings of her career, sitting at the No. 120 position for singles play.

Rebec has won 10 of her last 15 matches, extending her career singles victories to 41. As for doubles competition, being back with partner Aya El Sayed has proved to be a great success.

It has been so nice with Aya back, said Rebec. She is a solid partner, and I think we work so well together. She is the most amazing player I know.

The duo holds a 23-20 career record, marking five victories so far this season. In 2023, the pair finished No. 2 in the ITA Mountain Region, then continued into 2024, notching two ranked victories in dual competition.

Before El Sayed returned for the season, Rebec matched up with freshman Lani Brotman and senior Anya Nelson, recording four victories to begin the season.

My teammates are such an important part of my college career. I wouldn't be able to achieve what I have without them, as they support me non-stop when I'm competing, and help me get through each match, said Rebec.

She is someone who represents who we are as Buffs very well and represents Colorado greatly both on the court and in the classroom, said Pham.

The Buffs will be back in action tomorrow for their last weekend on the road. Competition will begin at Noon (MT) in Tucson, facing No. 35 Arizona. More information and live results can be found @cubuffstennis.
