AT COLORADO:
Balzert had an impressive career as a Colorado Buffalo, having earned a career record of 50-57 in singles action, 29-39 in dual matches, and 35-53 record in doubles action, including 23-37 in dual matches, despite missing over half of one spring and all of a fall due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Her 50 singles wins puts her into the CU record book at 34th most singles wins in CU history, and her 14 wins at No. 1 singles ranked tied for 12th in program annals.
Her 85 combined singles and doubles wins rank 39th in CU history and 39 of her 50 combined wins in dual match play have come at No. 1 or No. 2 singles or doubles.
2022-23 (Sr.)—Balzert had a stellar senior season in which she was named second-team All-Pac-12, just the second Buff to earn first- or second-team honors since joining the league. She finished with a 17-17 overall singles record, including 10-12 in dual matches, all at the No. 1 spot, which she has held since the midpoint of her junior season. She earned a 4-1 record at the ITA Mountain Regional and then 2-0 mark in the Colorado Cup to end the fall season on a 6-1 run. She played five ranked opponents, including the No. 5 player in the nation on three separate occasions (all different players). She defeated No. 97 Hikaru Sato from No. 16 Washington on a third-set tiebreaker in a match that saw the Buffs come back from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Huskies, the program’s highest-ranked win in seven years. In doubles, she played primarily with Aya El Sayed as the duo put up an 13-16 overall record, 8-11 in dual matches, all at No. 1 doubles. She also played two matches with freshman Anya Nelson, putting together a 1-1 record with an overall mark of 14-17. She led the Buffs to a postseason appearance for the first time in 16 seasons and a team win in the Pac-12 Tournament for the first time ever. She became the 15th player in program history to win 10 matches in a season at No. 1 singles and the first in six seasons.
2021-22 (Jr.)—Balzert rebounded from a bit of a slump in her sophomore season to put an impressive junior campaign together. Falling as far as No. 4 singles as a sophomore, she began the season at No. 3 singles, quickly moved to No. 2 and took over No. 1 midway through the spring season. In all, she compiled a 15-16 record in singles, 7-10 in dual matches, and a 9-17 record in doubles, 4-11 in dual matches. She opened the fall by winning six of seven (six in a row) and also picked up wins at the ITA Mountain Regional and Bonita Bay. After a pair of unfinished matches at No. 3 singles, she moved to No. 2 and put together a 4-2 record before taking over the top spot for Pac-12 play, where she faced five ranked opponents. Earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors by the coaches at the end of the season.
2020-21 (So.)—After the fall season was canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, she played a majority of her sophomore season at No. 3 and No. 4 singles with a trio of matches at No. 2. She opened the season winning four of her first five dual matches but lost her final 11 match-ups to finish 4-12 on the season in singles. In doubles, she combined for a 1-8 record with Megan Forster (1-5) and Fleur Eggink (0-3).
2019-20 (Fr.)—Balzert compiled a 14-12 overall record in singles, 8-5 in dual matches, and 7-10 doubles record, 4-3 in dual matches, in her true freshman campaign. She played No. 2 singles primarily, showing up at No. 1 one time and at No. 3 three times. In the fall, she finished with a 6-7 singles record including a pair of wins at the ITA Mountain Regional and at the Rice Fall Invitational. She opened the spring season by winning six of her first seven matches, including her only appearance at No. 1, and she finished 7-3 at the No. 2 spot and 1-0 at No. 1 before the COVID-19 Pandemic cut the season short. In doubles, she teamed with Maria Campos, Ky Ecton, Tallulah Farrow, Megan Forster and Monica Malinen at different points of the season, going 2-0 with Campos and 2-1 with Farrow.
Prior To CU—She came to CU ranked as one of the top 60 players in Germany in 2018. She played for TC Bredney and the Bundesliga and Regionalliga teams for coach Dennis Kruchen, who coached her from when she was 12 years old.
