Former University of Colorado All-American punter Keith English passed away in his sleep last week at his home in Littleton. He was 44.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Philip Lutheran Church, 7531 South Kendall Blvd., in Littleton.

A native of Greeley, Colo., English was a consensus first-team All-American and unanimous All-Big Eight selection in 1988 as he led the nation in punting with a 45.04 yard average, the first Buff to do so since Zack Jordan had 38 years earlier. He earned national Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 24, 1988, when he averaged 59.8 yards on five punts against Oregon State.

English, who also played tight end early in his CU career, had two punts over 70 yards, including a 77-yard bomb against Colorado State, and owned a 49.3 average on 24 punts inside the Buff 30. His 44.67 career punting average ranked second best in school history when he graduated.

He signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL, and had 68 punts in the pro ranks (for a 39.2 average). English also played one season for the Barcelona Dragons of the World League of American Football (1992). At the time of his death, English was director of human resources for VICORP Restaurants (Village Inn).

He is survived by his wife Hillary, daughter Madilyn and son Easton, his father Glen and his brother Chuck. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Charlene, and sister, Jennifer.
