Played the last two seasons at Grace Prep for coach Chad Pegues in Arlington, Texas, while also playing at Trinity Christian in Cedar Hill, Texas, as a freshman.
The last two seasons, he caught 103 passes for 1,567 yards and 14 touchdowns, and had five rushes for 79 yards on offense, and added 48 tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions, five pass breakups and one forced fumble on defense
Senior season he had 53 receptions for 845 yards and four touchdowns and three rushes for 54 yards on offense and 38 tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one pass breakup on defense.
Junior season he helped the team to a 10-1 record catching 48 passes for 722 yards and 10 touchdowns and had two rushes for 25 yards on offense, and added 20 tackles and four pass breakups on defense.
Freshman season playing at Trinity Christian with his dad Kevin Mathis, CU head coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders and current CU linebackers coach Andre’ Hart as his head coach, he had two receptions for seven yards and one tackle and a fumble recovery on defense.
