Three-year letterman (1952-55) under head coach H.B. Lee ... Two-time All-Big 7 Conference first-team selection ... Member of two NCAA Tournament teams in 1953-54 and 1954-55 ... Averaged 12.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game during his collegiate career ... His senior year, he averaged 16 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, ranking second on the team in both categories ... CU won a then-school-best 19 games and reached the national semifinals falling to eventual champion San Francisco ... Named the NCAA Tournament Regional Most Outstanding Player ... Also that season, member of the CU team that rallied from a 23-point first half road deficit to edge Kansas State; the 23-point deficit remains to this day, a school record ... As a junior, he was second on the team in scoring (12.8 points per game) and rebounding (6.1 rpg) ... His tip-in at the buzzer defeated Oklahoma, 56-55 (Dec. 20, 1952) ... Considered by many to be a strong team leader ... Member of the 1956 Olympic Gold Medal basketball team and scored a team-high 16 points in the gold medal game against the Soviet Union. He went on to have an outstanding career in AAU ball playing for the Luckett-Nix team.
