BOULDER – No. 25 Colorado fell to No. 8 BYU in straight sets, 25-18, 28-26, 25-21, on Thursday night at the CU Events Center.Â
The Buffaloes dropped to 16-6 and 7-5 in the Big 12 Conference, while the Cougars advanced to 19-1 and 11-0 in the Big 12.Â
"I liked how hard we fought and I liked the fact that we were in each set and working hard to do the right things," CU Head Coach Jesse Mahoney said. "It didn't come out the way we wanted, but I can always count on this team to come out hard."Â
Colorado battled throughout the match, taking BYU to extra points in the second set. CU held the Cougars to a .275 hitting percentage, below their average of .302.Â
"I think we are always fighting for the spot that we want," pin attacker Sydney Jordan said. "I was happy I was able to go in and help the team because that is what really matters. Wish we came away with the win today, but I'm proud of this team."
HOW IT HAPPENED:

Colorado matched BYU's early pace as pin attacker Ines Losada nailed a kill across court and defensive specialist Avery Bolles served back-to-back aces to take a narrow 6-5 lead. CU swapped points with the Cougars as a block and kill from Jordan put Colorado within one, 13-12.Â
A 5-0 Cougar run was disrupted by a Losada kill, bringing the set to 22-18. Ultimately, BYU finished off the set with a service ace.Â
Set 2: BYU 28, Colorado 26
The Buffaloes were strong at the net with Jordan, pin attacker Lily Dwinell and middle blocker Maria Splawska collecting blocks to tie the set at four. CU forged ahead with two kills from Splawska and an emphatic Losada kill to take a 9-7 lead. Â
The opponents fought back and forth as Splawska and Dwinell kills tied the set at 11. Losada recorded a kill to launch a 3-0 Buffalo run. The Cougars fought back with a 5-1 run of their own to take a slight 21-20 lead. Â
A 3-1 CU run highlighted by two kills from middle blocker Cayla Payne and a kill from Losada kept the Buffs within striking distance, finding a slight 24-23 deficit. A powerhouse kill from Payne sent the set into extra points. Efforts by Losada, Splawska and Dwinell were not enough as BYU took the set.Â
Set 3: BYU 25, Colorado 21
BYU went on a 7-2 run before two ferocious Payne kills broke up the Cougars' efforts. Colorado crept back with a Splawska kill, followed by back-to-back kills from Jordan to trail 12-10.Â
Blocks from setter Jenna Ylivainio and Payne kept the Buffs behind by two. Despite offensive efforts and kills from Splawska, Dwinell and Ylivainio, BYU secured the victory off a Cougar kill.Â
