In his back-to-back All-America campaigns (1938-39, 1939-40), Jack Harvey led the Buffs to two Mountain States Conference titles (CU’s first two years in the new league) and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in his senior season ... During those two years, CU posted one of the best two-season records west of the Mississippi, an impressive 31-8 mark and received recognition as the No. 1 team in the land ... During the 1939-40 season, Harvey was fourth in the conference in scoring (10.1 points per game) and first in free throws made (43) ... Harvey scored 27 points in CU’s 52-37 win at Denver (March 2, 1940), at the time the most points scored by a Buff in a single game ... CU won the Mountain States Conference with an 11-1 mark and averaged a conference-best 50.7 points per game ... In 1940, the Buffaloes won the N.I.T. with wins over DePaul and Duquense, with the tournament at the time considered more prestigious than the NCAA Tournament (CU was invited that same year but lost in the first round) ... Known for his tough defense, Harvey proved to be key in numerous Buff victories and limiting the opponent to just 31.2 points per game his junior season and only 37.0 his senior year ... He was also an outstanding ball-handler for a big man and was a key component in the CU fast break ... A solid two-time All-Conference performer, Harvey is the only CU basketball player to be selected twice as a first-team All-American ... Inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
