The only player in CU history to play for and start for the U.S. National team during a world championship, Downey was a two-time first-team All-Mideast Region selection by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (today she would be a two-time honorable mention All-American using the exact same selection process) โฆ She was first-team All-Big Eight twice (1993-94; honorable mention as a freshman in โ91) and the 1994-95 CU Female Athlete of the Year โฆ She led the Buffs to the 1992 and โ93 Big Eight Tournament Championships and the outright 1993 Big Eight Championship, the only league titles in the history of CU volleyball to this day โฆย She continues to hold countless set, match, season and career records for the Buffs, including most career kills (1,790); she held the career digs mark (1,540) until Cierra Simpson broke it in 2016 โฆ She is the only player in CU history to have led the Buffs in kills four times โฆ She is also the only player in program history with 300-plus kills in four different seasons and 400-plus in three, and sheโs also the only player in CU history to record 40 digs in a match โฆ She has the most career matches with 10-plus kills (101) and 20-plus kills (21) โฆ She ranked in the top five in the Big Eight four times in kills and twice each for digs and service aces โฆ she played for the US National Team in 1998 in the World Championships in Japan.
