The only player in CU history to play for and start for the U.S. National team during a world championship, Downey was a two-time first-team All-Mideast Region selection by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (today she would be a two-time honorable mention All-American using the exact same selection process) โ€ฆ She was first-team All-Big Eight twice (1993-94; honorable mention as a freshman in โ€˜91) and the 1994-95 CU Female Athlete of the Year โ€ฆ She led the Buffs to the 1992 and โ€™93 Big Eight Tournament Championships and the outright 1993 Big Eight Championship, the only league titles in the history of CU volleyball to this day โ€ฆย  She continues to hold countless set, match, season and career records for the Buffs, including most career kills (1,790); she held the career digs mark (1,540) until Cierra Simpson broke it in 2016 โ€ฆ She is the only player in CU history to have led the Buffs in kills four times โ€ฆ She is also the only player in program history with 300-plus kills in four different seasons and 400-plus in three, and sheโ€™s also the only player in CU history to record 40 digs in a match โ€ฆ She has the most career matches with 10-plus kills (101) and 20-plus kills (21) โ€ฆ She ranked in the top five in the Big Eight four times in kills and twice each for digs and service aces โ€ฆ she played for the US National Team in 1998 in the World Championships in Japan.
