Lettered four times in cross country and track under head coach Mark Wetmore from 1999 through 2003 … An eight-time All-American (three times in the steeplechase, twice in cross country, twice in indoor track and also in the 5k outdoors), and was a two-time Big 12 champion in the steeplechase, helping the school become known for excellence in that discipline … Still holds the CU record for the steeplechase (8:26.45) which he set at the 2001 USATF Championships, and at one time held records for the mile run (4:01:94) and was on the mile relay team that set the school mark when he ran in the anchor spot (16:19.85); the latter broke the record he helped set the year before (16:26.78, when he ran first) … Played a significant role in CU’s first NCAA championship in cross country in 2001 after battling back from a mid-season injury: in finishing as CU’s fourth runner (28th overall), every position in the final standings was of extreme importance as the Buffs defeated Stanford by one point (tying the closest finish in the event’s history that has happened just one other time) … Other NCAA Cross Country efforts included finishing 19th overall (the second Buff) in 2000 to help CU take second place; and 52nd overall (fourth CU runner) as Colorado took fourth … Earned All-American honors in the steeplechase outdoors at the 2000 NCAA meet with a seventh-place finish (8:43.82), and he had also qualified for the meet in the 1,500-meter run with a provisional mark of 3:43.82 … He was still able to finish that year in the steeple at the Big 12 Championships, as he was slowed a bit after hitting the water barrier … In 2001, he was the Big 12 champion in the steeple and finished third in the NCAA’s, with the race ending in a full-out sprint where .06 seconds separated the top three finishers … He repeated as the Big 12 steeple champ in 2002, winning by nine seconds and was less than four seconds from setting the conference record … Also ran the 1,500- and 5,000-meter runs as well as was on CU’s distance medley team on occasion (he was the anchor when the unit ran 9:54.59 in a meet in Lincoln, Neb., in 2002, at the time the seventh-fastest clocking in school history) … The 2003 U.S. champion in the steeplechase held at Palo Alto, Calif. (8:23.58); he had finished second the year before (8:23.44) and finished third in 2005 (8:25.52) … Was selected on the U.S. teams for two World Championships In Athletics (2003, 2005) and competed at both the IAAF World Indoor Championships and the IAAF World Cup in 2006) … He earned a reputation as one of the fastest performers in the steeplechase on the circuit, and among those highlights included an invitation to the 2007 IAAF World Athletics (in Stuttgart, Germany) where he finished eighth in 8:20.94 – he was the only American to make the final … He came second at the 2008 Reebok Grand Prix (in New York City) in an 8:28.21 clocking …. He competed in the 2010 IAAF Diamond League circuit, with his top finish of third in the USA Outdoor Nationals (8:33.23) … Had an incredible high school resume for Mount Olive in Flanders, N.J. … Graduated from CU with a degree in Economics in 2002 … The former vice president of sales and marketing for Aesthetics Biomedical, Inc., of Phoenix, he is now President of a Skin Care Company …Married to the former Sara Gorton, a member of CU’s Athletic Hall of Fame (inducted in 2016) and they reside in Paradise Valley, Ariz., with their two children … Born August 14, 1980, in Loveland and grew up in Flanders, N.J., where his family moved a few months after he was born.Â
