Tennis Advances With Win Over KU

KANSAS CITY - In the closest match of the day, Colorado edged Kansas, 4-3, Thursday afternoon to cap the first round of the Big 12 Conference women's tennis tournament at the Kansas City Country Club.
CU head coach Nicole Kenneally's squad used four of six singles points as the deciding marker in the victory over the Jayhawks, which ended the season 7-12 in dual play. The Buffaloes improved to 13-7 overall, the most wins for a coach Kenneally team over the last four years.
In singles, CU won the match taking points at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5. Lemperle was a straight-set winner at the top singles (6-0, 6-4) and Dimingo took a straight win at No. 3 (6-3, 6-1). Sophomore Kendra Strandemo won her 14th of her last 17 matches with an exciting three-set marathon over Christine Skoda 6-3, 6-7 (6), 7-6(4) at No. 4; and at No. 5 freshman Jessica Vanderdys notched her 11th win at No. 5 taking an easy 6-0, 6-1 decision.
Colorado advances to an 8 a.m. (MDT) quarterfinal match against top-seeded Baylor at the Plaza Tennis Center Friday in Kansas City.
