DENVER - Returning to the Centennial State, the Colorado Buffaloes tennis team will compete for the Colorado Cup Friday, Oct. 23 - Sunday, Oct. 25. Sending five players to the University of Denver's indoor Denver Tennis Park, doubles matches will begin for the Buffs at 9 a.m. Friday.
Resuming play after a competitive regionals performance in Utah last weekend, Willow Gretsch, Yukiko Ikedo and Louise Ternstroem will all get back to action on the court for Colorado, alongside Heidi Crncan and Pia Rebec.
"They're getting to turn around and compete right away," head coach Anthony Pham said. "Usually… they wouldn't play another tournament for a couple weeks so the fact that they get to turn around and play right away will be helpful for them."
Rebec will make her first singles appearance since March, coming off a strong doubles performance with Ternstroem at regionals, where the duo fought their way into the quarterfinals.
"I think her being able to get through multiple doubles matches last week unscathed gives her some confidence," Pham said.Â
To open the tournament slate, both doubles and singles will compete against Montana State for the first day of play. The five Buffs will then move to compete against Denver Saturday, battling the hosts through two doubles match ups and five singles before facing Colorado State Sunday.
