April 11, 2004 | Tennis
NORMAN, Okla. ? Trailing 1-0 after the doubles competition, the Colorado women's tennis team wasn't able to rebound falling to No. 18 Oklahoma, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The Buffaloes did register two singles points by Jessica Vanderdys and Kristy Randono.
CU drops to 9-8 overall and to 5-4 in the Big 12, while the Sooners improve to 15-3 and 4-2 in the conference.
The Buffaloes showed promise on the day in the doubles competition. Vanderdys and Morgan Sall upset the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) No. 29th ranked team of Anda Perianu and Heather Saluri, 8-3. It's the eighth win at the top doubles slot for the CU duo.
The visitors failed to tally wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots as both lost by identical 8-5 margins.
In singles, Vanderdys kept the upset bug to her advantage defeating the ITA's No. 114th ranked player of Irina Lykina 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (7). It was the first win over a ranked opponent this spring for Vanderdys and fifth win in her last six matches at No. 2 singles.
Kristy Randono claimed CU's other point winning in straight sets at No. 6. It was Randono's first win since Feb. 29 breaking a five-match losing streak.
CU was unable to generate anything further in the other four singles slots.
The Buffs continue their regular season road tour by traveling to Iowa State on Friday, April 16. From there, the CU women travel to Nebraska (April 18), then to Colorado State (April 23) to close out the spring regular season.
