WOMEN's TENNIS SWEEPS MARQUETTE, 7-0

MADISON, Wis. ? Senior Kendra Strandemo won her No. 1 singles match, while five others were also victorious leading the University of Colorado women's tennis team to a 7-0 sweep of Marquette, Sunday afternoon in a match played at the University of Wisconsin.
          The Buffaloes, ranked No. 70th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll won for the first time in three matches against the Golden Eagles, and improve to 2-1 on the season while Marquette falls to 1-2.
          Strandemo remained unbeaten in three matches this spring defeating her opponent in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. It was also her eighth victory this year and 62nd career.
          Colorado continued the one-sided match claiming victories from the No. 2 through No. 6 slots. Jessica Vanderdys won her first match of the spring at No. 2 in three sets; No. 76 ranked Lynzee Kever did the same at No. 3, winning her first spring dual match in three sets after losing the opening set.
          CU again flexed its muscle at the bottom of the singles slots like it did in the season opener at Air Force, sweeping the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 positions led by Veera Nurmi, Martina Sedivec, and Gleisy Torres Torres. The trio is a combined 7-2 after three matches.
          The Buffs started the day's competition securing the doubles point winning at all three slots.
Strandemo/Sedivec won at No. 1, 8-4; Vanderdys/Nurmi at No. 2, 8-3; and Kever teamed with Jenny Hanson for their first spring victory taking an 8-2 victory.
          Colorado will host Pac-10 opponent Washington State, Feb. 3 at the Harvest House. First serve is at 6:30 p.m.
