Postgame Notes

u      The 2-0 start by Colorado in Big 12 is its first in league play since 2002 (opened 4-0) and is the sixth time in 10 years CU has opened with a pair of wins.  The 41 points is the second most CU has scored against a Big 12 South team in league play, topped only by CU's 47-30 win at Texas on Oct. 25, 1997.

u      QB Joel Klatt (12-15, 211 yards, First Quarter).  Klatt set school records for both the most passing yards and for total offense in a single quarter.  He held the old passing mark for a quarter with 196 against North Texas (second quarter, Sept. 18, 2004); the previous total offense quarter best was 192, by Koy Detmer versus NE Louisiana on Sept. 26, 1995 (192 pass, 0 rush).

u      Klatt II.  He now has five 300-yard passing games in his career (regular season); Koy Detmer holds the school record with six (both also have one in the postseason).  Klatt's career 300-yard games (note that in these games, he has thrown 17 touchdown passes and just one interception):

                      419 (54-38-1, 2 TD)   vs. Kansas in Boulder, Oct. 11, 2003 (OT)

                                                              402 (34-21-0, 4 TD)  vs. Colorado State in Denver, Aug. 30, 2003

                                                              398 (36-28-0, 3 TD)                vs. Texas A&M in Boulder, Oct. 8, 2005

                                                              371 (33-26-0, 3 TD)  vs. North Texas in Boulder, Sept. 18, 2005

                                                              346 (42-25-0, 2 TD)  vs. Texas A&M at College Station, Oct. 23, 2004 (OT)

                                                              333 (33-24-0, 2 TD)  vs. Texas-El Paso in Houston, Dec. 29, 2004 (Houston Bowl).

u      Klatt III.  He had 398 yards total offense tonight, enough to move him past Darian Hagan (5,808) into second place all-time at Colorado with 5,825 (trailing only Kordell Stewart's 7,770).  With 3 TD passes, he now has 36, moving into second and trailing only Koy Detmer (40).  And his ratio of TD passes-to-interceptions in the red zone for his career is now 20-to-1 (1 TD/0 INT tonight).

u      Colorado has now scored 24 or more points in six of the seven games in the series (exception: 16-10 loss in 1997).

u      Of the nine kickoff returns against PK Mason Crosby this year, four have not been brought out beyond the 20.

u      TE Joe Klopfenstein (5-99, 0 TD).  He set a regular season best with 99 receiving yards; he does have one 100-yard career game, coming in last December's Houston Bowl against UTEP (5-134, 1 TD).

u      TE Quinn Sypniewski (3-70, 1 TD).  He matched his career best with three catches, but the 70 yards was easily a single-game best for him (topping the 44 against Colorado State).

u      TE's.  Thus, note Colorado's two-headed tight end monster had eight catches for 169 yards and 1 TD.

u      Colorado Offense.  The Buffs amassed 559 yards this evening, ranking as the sixth most in a Big 12 Conference game in its history.  The top five:

u      Colorado Defense.  After both teams combined for 347 yards in the first quarter (CU 233, A&M 114), the Buffs held the Aggies to just 72 in the second and third quarters combined, while gaining 315 themselves.  A&M's second team got the best of CU's second unit in the fourth by 150-11.

u      PK Mason Crosby is now seventh in scoring all-time at Colorado with 182 points; he passed Byron White (177) this evening.  With two field goals, he is now tied with Tom Field for the second most in a CU uniform with 36 (Jeremy Aldrich leads with 48).

u      P John Torp, with his first punt that pinned A&M at its two, set the school record for most career punts inside-the-20.  He had entered the game tied with Stan Koleski (1973-76) with 51; he had two tonight for 53 total.

u      Crosby/Torp.  They did it again, as A&M started 10 of its 13 drives at or inside the 20?the total on the year for the opponent is now 43 of 69 (and 43 of 60 when accounting for CU turnovers).

u      Gary Barnett is now 46-34 at Colorado (80 games) won his 31st in conference play, tying him for the fifth most league wins by a coach in CU history.
