
No. 42 Women's Tennis Drops Conference Opener

BOULDER ? The University of Colorado women's tennis team opened the Big 12 Conference season on the short end falling to the No. 3 Texas Longhorns, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the Boulder Country Club.
The Longhorns improved to 2-0 in conference play and 5-3 overall, the Buffaloes dropped to 0-1 in the conference and to 5-2 overall. The loss halts CU's three-match winning streak, while the Longhorns defeated Nebraska on Saturday have won two in row and five of its last six.
Texas, the 2005 NCAA runner up, recorded the doubles point, then won the first three singles slots clinching the match with a 4-0 lead.
Freshman Franziska Jendrian was the lone CU player who claimed a point rallying at the No. 5 singles slot 5-7, 6-4, 1-0(5). Jendrian won the third set in a super tie-breaker by a 10-5 margin for her fifth win of the spring season in six attempts.
Freshman Monica Milewski, No. 56 nationally lost in three sets after winning the first set, 6-2, however, lost the next two, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 6, sophomore Gleisy Torres Torres lost a tough two-set match, both in tie-breakers 7-6(9), 7-6(8).
CU returns to action Feb. 18 and Feb. 19 on the road at Oregon and Portland, respectively.
