February 26, 2011 | Tennis
The Buffs dropped their second match in a row in as many days falling to No. 16 Arkansas on Saturday, 7-0.
Freshman Kristina Schleich picked up the lone CU point on the day at No. 1 singles defeating Rebekka Hanle in three sets, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9). It was Schleich's first spring match of her career at the top singles slot, and her second match of the year rallying from a set to achieve victory. Schleich also won her 14th match.
"This was a great weekend of competition for us and showed us where we need to be in order to be competing with the best teams in the country," CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "Today we were really impressed with the caliber of tennis that Krissi and Carla played. This showed us the level that they are capable of playing at. We play DU next Friday night and it will be a real battle."
In doubles, the pair of Abbie Probert and Michala Hedelund Jensen won the No. 2 position also in exciting fashion with an 8-7 win. Probert wins her 60th career doubles match becoming the eighth CU women in tennis school history to reach the 60-win plateau for doubles. Hedelund Jensen meanwhile won her 39th career match moving into 25th all-time on the same list.
The Buffaloes will travel to Denver to take on the Pioneers, March 4 at 4 p.m.
