Colorado-UCLA Notes

November 02, 2013 | Football

Players who carried out CU's symbolic instruments today:
Sledgehammer: S Parker Orms Toolbox: DT Nate Bonsu

QUICKLY UCLA now leads the all-time series 7-2, having won the last three meetings (the first three with both as members of the Pac-12 South Division) ... Today marked the fourth time that the Buffaloes wore the ensemble of a black helmet, white jersey and black pant (doing so for the first time ever here at UCLA in 2011); Colorado is now 0-4 in the look ... CU is also now 1-7 when wearing the black helmets ... Colorado is now 1-7 on the coin toss in 2013, winning it for the first time today ... Colorado has lost 13 straight against ranked teams (last win: 34-30 over Kansas in 2009); the Buffs have lost 21 straight road games against ranked opponents, with the last win a 31-17 over UCLA at the Rose Bowl in 2002 ... Since 1989, CU is now 56-37-1 in their last 94 November games (50-25 against all-comers aside from Nebraska, going 6-12-1 against the Huskers, and 51-14 against unranked teams) ... CB Jeffrey Hall made his first career start, subbing for an injured Kenneth Crawley ...

CU forced UCLA into a "three-and-out" on its opening drive, the fourth time in eight games the Buff defense has accomplished that (the Bruins had four in 12 drives, scoring three of their six TDs on drives started in CU territory ... CU's 11:33 in time of possession for the first quarter was a quarter high this season, as was its 20:38 in the first half for a half ... UCLA's 412 total yards and 215 first half yards were the fewest against CU in a league game this year (ASU had the previous game low of 532, OSU had the previous first half low of 285) ... CU gained a Pac-12 season best 381 yards, and moved the ball into UCLA territory on seven of 10 drives.

BALL SECURITY Colorado entered the day with just six fumbles (four lost) and had two (one lost) today, by KR Ryan Severson; but the running backs have combined for 234 carries without a fumble this season.? Tony Jones has 261 career touches with just one fumble, Christian Powell has 274 in his career with only two.

WR PAUL RICHARDSON (7-70-1 TD) P-Rich" now has 57 catches for 984 yards, 18.3 per, with eight touchdowns this season, and for his career, he has 130 for 2,053 yards and 19 touchdowns (seventh, sixth and tied for fourth, respectively, all-time at CU), as he continues to inch closer to all the CU season marks: 78 receptions (D.J. Hackett, 2003), 1,149 yards (Charles E. Johnson, 1992) and 11 TDs (Derek McCoy, 2003).
- His 7-yard TD reception was his eighth of the season, just the ninth Buff to have that many in a year, but it lowered his average yards per score from 57.9 per to 51.5 (412 yards), and his 19 career have spanned 783 yards (41.2).

ILB ADDISON GILLAM (5,1-6 TT) He is nearing the record for most tackles by a freshman in school history; with the unofficial count of six today (CU uses coaches video numbers), he is within five. CU's freshmen tackle bests (*denotes redshirt frosh):
