Cross Country: The CU men and women both finished second earlier today at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky.
CU now leads the series by a 5-4 count (3-1 in the state of Washington, 1-1 in Pullman) ... the Buffs are 7-5-1 all-time in the state of Washington.
First Career Starts: QB Cade Apsay, DT Jase Franke.- That brings the total to 23 different Buffaloes who have made their first career starts in 2015.
Colorado was shut out in the first half for the first time in 23 games, or since the 2013 finale at Utah (Nov. 30) ... The Buffs did not score a touchdown for the first time since a 38-3 loss to Washington in Boulder on Nov. 17, 2012.
WSU had 149 rushing yards, its third most in the series, and five more than it had in the previous three games against the Buffs combined.
OLB Derek McCartney turns 22 on Sunday; he actually turned 22 on the bus leaving the stadium.
INDIVIDUAL LINER NOTES
WR Nelson Spruce (10-120, 0 TD) - He made his 45th career start tonight, setting a CU record for the most starts by an offensive player (breaking a tie with OG Joe Garten, 1987-90, and C Bryan Stoltenberg, 1992-95). He had his eighth 100-yard game of his career (8-103 in the first half, earning six first downs); that tied him with Michael Westbrook for the fourth-most by a Buff. He continued to add to his school and Pac-12 marks in career receptions (289) and to his school mark in yards 3,236; he moved from 15th into 10th place in all-time on the Pac-12 list. He remains tied with Scotty McKnight (2007-10) for the most TD receptions in school history with 22. He has caught at least one pass in 37 straight games (multiple in 32 straight, the latter also a CU record). This was the seventh game he caught 10 or more passes, adding to his CU record in that category.
TB Phillip Lindsay (16-78) Â -Â He finished the game with 997 career yards, now three shy of the 53rd player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards.
P Alex Kinney -Â His first punt of the evening was downed inside-the-5, giving him CU freshman single-season records of 22 punts inside-the-20 and nine punts inside-the-10.
S Tedric Thompson - He had his second interception of the season tonight (returned 27 yards, thus he has returned the two for 98 yards total). He has five career picks.
QB Cade Apsay (40-26-2, 238, 0 TD; 9-8 rushing, 246 TO) - He became the 11th freshman (fifth redshirt frosh) to start a game at quarterback at Colorado this evening. He had the seventh most passing yards in a starting debut by a CU quarterback (the third most by a freshman).
