Saturday Declared National Bison Day By Senate
November 03, 2015 | General, Ralphie
The simple resolution was passed in a vote in the Senate. Simple resolutions are not voted on in the other chamber. The vote was by Unanimous Consent so no record of individual votes was made.Â
Included in the resolution were several interesting statements that we know Buffs fans and Ralphie enthusiasts will already understand well, including:
- "Whereas bison are considered a historical symbol of the United States;
- "Whereas a bison has been depicted on the official seal of the Department of the Interior since 1912;
- "Whereas several sports teams have the bison as a mascot, which highlights the significance of bison in the United States;
- "Whereas there is a growing effort to celebrate and officially recognize the historical, cultural and economic significance of the North American bison to the heritage of the United States;"
The resolution concludes that the Senate designates November 7, 2015, the first Saturday of November, as National Bison Day and encourages the people of the United States to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.Â
What a better way to celebrate National Bison Day with the running of Ralphie at Folsom Field?
The resolution is linked to a movement called Vote Bison, located at www.votebison.org, a coalition that includes CU-Boulder, pushing for bison to become the official national mammal of the United States and to officially make the first Saturday in November every year National Bison Day.Â
The group's movement includes Beards for Bison, where people are encouraged to share a shot of your beard, real or fake, to help "celebrate the American icon and its impressive fur."
