CU Wins 6-1 At Northern Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. - Colorado earned a road win on Friday, topping Northern Colorado 6-1 in regional action in Greeley. The win moved the Buffaloes to 4-4 on the season, including 3-2 in the Mountain Region, while UNC was handed its first loss and now sits at 2-1.
Tina Bokhua and Nuria Ormeño Ruiz earned a key doubles victory, upsetting 40th-ranked Beth Coton and Remi Immler 6-4 at the No. 1 position. That, along with a 6-1 win by Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Jeannez Daniel at No. 2 gave CU the doubles point.
"I'm happy with the way we came out and competed," head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "Northern Colorado has got some solid players and obviously their No. 1 doubles team is ranked nationally so that was a good win for Nuria and Tina."
Ormeño Ruiz then quickly took down Coton 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to put the Buffaloes up 2-0 in the match.
Andrinopoulos won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 and Bokhua won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 to clinch the match with a 4-0 lead for CU.
Daniel and Vitaliya Alkhovik also earned wins for the Buffs at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Daniel won 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 and Alkhovik won 5-7, 6-1, 11-9. Freshman Brigitte Beck also won an exhibition match in three sets.
"It's always great to get a win," Kenneally said. "I think it was great to get a few of the girls into the lineup [that don't normally play]. We've had a lot of close matches, we've had a stretch here of solid matches and we've played solid. To get a win on the road is good. We have the rest of the weekend off, which is nice considering the stretch we've had with pretty intense matches so far this season."
Colorado will continue its month-long road trip next weekend at Tulane and No. 19 Ole Miss.
