Buffs Head To Texas Looking To Snag A Pair Of Wins
February 24, 2017 | Tennis
BOULDER – This weekend Colorado's women's tennis team makes the trip to Houston, Texas facing both the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners (Saturday at 11 a.m. MT) and the No. 23 Rice University Owls (Sunday at 11 a.m. MT) for a pair of matches kicking off five straight road matches the Buffs will face over the next two and a half weeks.
          Â
Colorado enters the weekend having dropped their previous match at home to the University of Texas at El Paso Miners 4-2, and they head to Texas with a 7-2 overall record. So far, this season the Buffs carry a respectable record of 3-1 on the road and they'll look to improve that mark starting this weekend.
          Â
The Roadrunners bring a 4-2 record into the weekend, and they'll take on Rice Friday at 12:00 p.m. MT, before facing the Buffs on Saturday. Colorado has faced UTSA once before in its history, beating the Roadrunners in San Antonio, Texas 7-0 on March 24, 2004.
          Â
As for the hosting Owls, they recently jumped back into the top 25 and they bring a 5-2 record overall into the weekend. It'll be the third time that Colorado and Rice have faced each other, the last being a 6-1 Rice victory on February 26, 2011, and the Owls hold a 2-0 advantage all-time against the Buffs.
          Â
The last two matches for the Buffs have been battles from start to finish, and they've been getting production from everyone in the lineup.Â
          Â
On the road in an intense environment, against Air Force, junior Kyra Wojcik (6-7) stepped up to help the Buffs finish off a big-time comeback clinching the match for CU at the No. 5 spot in straight sets.Â
          Â
And in the loss against UTSA, sophomore Annabelle Andrinopoulos (11-6) got Colorado on the board at the No. 3, followed quickly by her teammate freshman Chloe Hule (10-7) who won her match at No. 4 to give the Buffs a fighting chance halfway through their match against the Miners.
          Â
Senior Nuria Ormeño Ruiz still leads the Buffs with a 16-6 (7-2 at No. 1) record, and junior Louise Ronaldson is a close second with a 14-3 (5-1 at No. 2) but Hule's 10-7 start has been impressive for the freshman, and the Buffs will look to build on the strengths of their middle lineup to take two wins this weekend.
          Â
Live stats for CU's match against UTSA won't be available.  But live stats for the match against Rice will be available and can be found on the Rice University's women's tennis website along with a direct link that will be posted on match day via @CUBuffsTennis on twitter.
