Buffs Open Up 2018 Spring Season With Strong Singles Play

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Colorado women's tennis season opened the 2018 season with an up-and-down day at the IU Invitational at the IU Tennis Center. The team had a slow start during the doubles matches in the morning, before rebounding in the afternoon with strong play in the singles matches.
The Buffs went 1-2 in the doubles matches, with the team's lone win coming from the doubles pairing of junior Brigitte Beck and junior Ilana Oleynik defeated Wright State's Luisa Pelayo and Madison Riley, 7-6 (7-3).
However, the doubles team of sophomore Chloe Hule and senior Kyra Wojcik fell to Indiana's Madison Appel and Michelle McKamey, 6-1, while senior Louise Ronaldson and junior Annabelle Andrinopoulos fell to Abilene Christian's Sarah Eleanor Adams and Whitney Williams, 6-3.
In the afternoon, CU won four of their six singles matches.
Hule defeated Abilene Christian's Williams 6-4, 7-5 in the Hoosiers Flight, while Ronaldson took a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win over Indiana's Natalie Whalen in the Indiana Flight, Wojcik breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Wright State's Pelayo in the Crimson Flight and Beck took down Wright State's Grace Whitney, 6-0, 6-3 in the Big Red Flight.
Andrinopoulos fell to DePaul's Patricia Lancranjan, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) in the Indiana Flight and Olenyk was defeated by Marquette's Isabella Franks, 6-3, 7-5 in the Crimson Flight.
"As a whole, we competed well today and really showed a great attitude and composure out on the court," said head coach Nicole Kenneally post-match. "We look forward to build on today's successes and lessons towards tomorrow's play."
Play continues Sunday and Monday in Bloomington.
