Richmond, Va. - This past weekend at the USATF Cross Country Championships, Colorado saw current Buff, Kole Mathison and two alumni, Abby Nichols and Morgan Pearson qualify for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships. The World Championships are set to take place in Belgrade, Serbia on March 30, 2024.

Colorado freshman, Mathison was the first to qualify after an amazing second-place finish in the U20 men's 8K. He sat in second-place for the first 3,000m before taking the lead at the 4K mark while the previous leader dropped.

Mathison then held the lead for the next 2,000m before battling it out with the eventual first-place winner in the final 3K. He finished the race in 24:18.4 to qualify for his second straight trip to the World Championships.

In the next two races, former Buffs, Nichols and Pearson both qualified as well. Nichols placed sixth in the women's 10K with a time of 34:09.4 while Pearson finished fourth in the men's 10K in 29:15.5.

Nichols was a graduate student who competed for Colorado's cross country and track teams during the 2021-22 season and Pearson competed for the Buffs for three seasons before graduating in 2016.

With their great runs this past Saturday, all three Buffs are set to take center stage in Serbia in late March.
