
Buffs Wrap up NCAA Mountain Regional in Reno

RENO, Nev. -- The Colorado Buffaloes cross country teams competed in the NCAA Mountain Regional Friday afternoon in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Regionals next weekend in Wisconsin.Â
The women's team completed the 6k event with a total of 169 points, good enough for a 6th place finish among 19 schools. The men's team placed 5th overall in the 10k race with 157 points out of 17 schools competing.Â
Jessie Secor (11th - 20:10.2) and Abbey Nechanicky (16th - 20:13.7) were the top two finishers for the Buffs, both placing inside the top-20 for the event. Katja Bauerle rounded out the top three for the CU women's team, finishing 40th overall with a time of 20:46.9.
Natalie Cook (46th - 20:53.2), Caroline Mehlhorn (56th - 21:06.1), Louise Lounes (72nd - 21:28.8), and Elliot Pribramsky (77th - 21:34.2) closed out the rest of the scoring on the day in the women's 6k event for Colorado.Â
"The women have continued to trend the right direction each week," head coach Sean Carlson said. "Jessie and Abbey had great days. Jessie will make the national meet as an individual and Abby just missed after a great freshman season, looking forward to our athletes keeping the momentum going in to NCAAs!"
Isaiah Givens led the charge for the men's squad in the 10k event, placing 17th overall with a personal best time of 29:41.1, breaking his previous event record of 30:04.5. James Overberg (27th - 29:54.3) and Simon Kelati (33rd - 29:59.6) were the next two finishers for the Buffaloes.Â
Dean Casey (38th - 30:03.3), Wilson Georges (42nd - 30:16.8), Grady Rauba (44th - 30:17.3), and Kole Mathison (72nd - 31:07.2) were the final four runners to complete the 10k race for the Buffs.Â
"The men ran a good team race and should get through to nationals as an at large with today's performance," Carlson stated.
