Leyba Named to Hermann Trophy Midseason Watchlist

October 07, 2025 | Soccer

KANSAS CITY, Mo.  — Colorado junior forward Hope Leyba was one of 35 players announced to the 2025 Hermann Trophy Midseason Watchlist by the Missouri Athletic Club on Tuesday.

The Phoenix, Ariz., native was one of three Buffaloes selected to the Preseason Watchlist in August. Since then, Leyba has scored an NCAA-leading 14 goals in CU's 13 matches this season. Leyba opened the season, scoring nine goals in the first five matches, the most by a CU striker to start a season in program history.

Leyba is one of two players in the nation to have multiple hat tricks this season, becoming the first CU player to accomplish that feat. Her 29 total points this season sit atop the Big 12 and the NCAA. Her 14 goals are the third most by a Buff in an individual season, with six regular-season matches still to play. Leyba has twice been a Co-Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and was named to the Top Drawer Soccer (TDS) Team of the Week on Aug. 25 and Oct. 1.

The Hermann Trophy is presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club and is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by voting of Division I head coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches. It is named in honor of the late Robert Hermann, the legendary St. Louis, Mo., businessman and soccer executive who founded the National Professional Soccer League, the first pro soccer league in the United States, which became the North American Soccer League. He was inducted into the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 2012

The 2025 midseason watch list was compiled by members of the Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List Committee from a list of returning 2024 All-Americans and First Team All-Region players. A total of 15 players will be named 2025 Hermann Trophy semifinalists on December 2 at the conclusion of NCAA Division I All-American voting. From that list, head coaches will cast votes, and three players will be named finalists. The 2025 recipient will be announced January 9, 2026, in a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis, Mo.
