Buff Duo Falls In First Round

Van Der Werff and Alexin will continue their fight on the backside at ITA Conference Masters
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Two Colorado Buffaloes representing Big 12 at the ITA Conference Masters Championship, Rixt Van Der Werff and Lera Alexin, fell short of advancing to the second round of play this Thursday at the Barnes Tennis Center.
In the opening round of competition, the pair faced fifth-seeded Xin Tong Wang and Giorgia Roselli of Wichita State, handing the Buffs their second loss as a doubles duo.
Wang and Roselli took the first set picking up a 6-1 finish to gain an early edge over Colorado. In set two, down 1-4, Van Der Werff and Alexin responded with five straight games to take the win, 6-4.
In the tiebreak, the Buffs kept close but ultimately fell to Wang and Roselli, 8-10.
This is not the end of Colorado's run, as the pair will continue to fight on the backside Friday morning. Van Der Werff and Alexin will face Mackenzie King and Karolina Skowronska of Chicago State University.

Competition in San Diego will continue Friday at Noon (MT). Down south, the rest of the Buffs will begin their dual in Bonita Bay, Florida, against the University of Memphis at 6 p.m. (MT).
