BOULDER – Maya McVey has signed a Financial Aid Agreement to join the University of Colorado women's golf team for the 2025-26 season, head coach Madeleine Sheils announced on Thursday.
McVey, a native of Blue Springs, Mo., comes to Colorado after two fantastic seasons at Central Missouri. She helped the Jennies to a runner-up finish at the 2025 NCAA Division II Championship. McVey was the runner-up at the NCAA Central Region and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championships and won two of her three match play events during the national finals rounds.
A two-time Women's Golf Coaches Association All-Central Region pick, McVey had 12 top 10 individual finishes over two seasons and finished outside the top 25 in only three events. She helped the Jennies to 13 team wins, including a pair of MIAA titles and the 2025 NCAA Central Region championship.
"I chose CU for its highly competitive environment, the amazing coaching staff, and the chance to grow both on and off the course," McVey said. "I want to express my gratitude to coach Sheils and coach Mia (Landegren) for their support and for giving me this incredible opportunity to play at the highest level of collegiate golf. I can't wait to be part of such a strong team and represent the Buffs!"
McVey was second on the team in stroke average (74.10) as a sophomore with 10 under-par rounds, including three in the 60s, two of which came during NCAA postseason action. She was the 2023-24 MIAA Freshman of the Year, placing second at the conference championship.
"We are so fortunate to be adding Maya McVey to our roster this fall," Sheils said. "She is coming to CU after building a great foundation to her collegiate career at Central Missouri, earning a win this season and 12 top 10s over the past two years. Her game is on a clear upward trend, as demonstrated by the key role she played in Central Missouri's run to the NCAA II Championship Final last week.
"Maya has big goals and is fiercely competitive, but most importantly, she puts in the hard work and dedication necessary to make her goals a reality. She impresses me with her reputation for diligent effort, her fundamentals, and her on-course composure. Maya is the type of rising star that thrives here at CU, and we couldn't be more excited to be the next step in her journey."
A native of Blue Springs, Mo., McVey was a three-time all-state honoree at Blue Springs South High School and the 2022 Missouri Class 4A State Champion. She was the 2022 Kansas Women's Amateur Champion and was the 2023 Missouri Women's Amateur medalist.
