Hykeem Williams Embracing The Brotherhood

BOULDER -- When Hykeem Williams transferred from Florida State to Colorado, he knew the transition wouldn't be easy. But it's been the supportive and family-oriented culture at Colorado that has made all the difference for the wide receiver.

"At first, it was rough, but other than on the field, it's been smooth," Williams said. "Everybody makes sure that everybody's good. It's a big family here."

Williams emphasized the importance of development, both personal and professional, in his decision to transfer. He was seeking an environment that would push him to reach his full potential.

Personal and professional development

"More development," Williams said. "Being around so many guys that have been there. Coming here, it's just on another level. You've got three gold jackets, NFL guys that come in, and Hall of Famers that even come in, still, to just pour into us and help us to be great and succeed."

Williams also expressed his respect for the coaching staff, particularly his position coach, Jason Phillips, who led the nation in receiving for two seasons in college and also played in the NFL.

"He makes sure that we know the game and know what to do, how to get out of situations," Williams said. "You just got to make that play. And you got guys in the office that have been to the league, that see the greats do it, and they're looking at us to do the same thing."

Teamwork and brotherhood

Williams elaborated on the team's culture, describing it as a brotherhood. He explained that knowing and trusting the person playing next to you is crucial for success on the field.

"If you don't know who you're playing next to, you're not going to get anywhere," Williams said. "As long as it's a brotherhood, that's all you need because you got your brother's back."

Williams acknowledged the challenges that come with playing football, especially during camp. However, he emphasized the importance of perseverance and dedication.

"It's football. We're here to play football, man," Williams said. "At the end of the day, no matter what. It's just the grind, regardless of how tough it's going to get. But we came here to play ball, regardless, no matter what."

Dynamic talent

When asked about the talent in the wide receiver room, Williams couldn't help but express his admiration for the diverse skill sets of his fellow receivers. He refrained from comparing them to previous teams but acknowledged the immense talent present.

"I honestly can't really answer that," Williams said. "Everyone's different; everybody's got their own different game. I was a part of the Florida State 13-0 team, and there was a lot of talent in that room. But honestly, here, it's a lot of talent in this room, too. Just going from seeing that and then seeing this, we could definitely do it."

Williams also emphasized the importance of staying focused and continuing to work hard, even when faced with tough situations.

"Just keep my head down and keep working, honestly," Williams said. "Every day, just get better and get better. Just take the coaching and just keep working every day."

With a strong support system and a shared sense of purpose, Williams and his teammates are ready to tackle any obstacles that come their way.
