Buffs Sign Michaeli To Men's Basketball Squad

August 21, 2025 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER – Alon Michaeli has signed a Financial Aid Agreement to join the University of Colorado men's basketball team for the 2025-26 season, the team announced on Thursday.

Michaeli is a 6-foot-9-inch, 229-pound power forward from Kfar Saba, Israel, who spent the 2024-25 season playing for Bnei Hertzeliya in the Israeli Basketball Premier League, regarded as the top league in the country. He played 22 games for Bnei Hertzeliya, shooting 51 percent from the field in just over eight minutes per game, having just turned 19 years old during the early part of the season.

Michaeli moved up to Bnei Hertzeliya following a standout 2023-24 season with Elitzur Maccabi Netanya in Israel's Second Division. He averaged 10.5 points and a team-best 5.1 rebounds over 30 games, earning the Rising Star Award.

A veteran of several international events, Michaeli helped Israel to a sixth-place finish at the 2025 FIBA U20 EuroBasket Championships in Greece in July. He ranked third in scoring among all players at the championship at 17.3 points per game and was eighth in rebounding at 7.6 per game. Michaeli had three games of 20-plus points, including a 28-point outing against Poland during the Group Phase.

Michaeli also competed for Israel at the 2024 FIBA U20 EuroBasket and three European Championships at the U16 and U18 levels from 2021-23.

"We are very excited about Alon joining our team for the upcoming season," Colorado associate head coach Mike Rohn said. "We have been working very hard all summer to make his arrival possible.  Alon had a great summer representing Israel in the U20 EuroBasket Championships in Heraklion, Greece.  He brings a level of toughness and experience that will really benefit our team."
