Bubalo and Alexin wrap up day three of competition
BERKELEY – Colorado Buffalo women's tennis players Ema Bubalo and Lera Alexin finished their main draw in the Battle in the Bay Classic this Saturday, after advancing to the third day of competition.
The duo went a combined 2-4 in singles and 1-1 in doubles play, going to the quarterfinals in doubles.
"Some tough results for the Buffs today," said head coach Anthony Pham, "We competed very hard but couldn't quite get over the hump. We look forward to finishing the weekend strong tomorrow"
After wrapping up their run in doubles Friday, Bubalo and Alexin continued in the singles consolation quarterfinals, both falling short of an advancement.
Bubalo began competition taking her match with San Jose State's Duru Durgu to a third set. After falling 6-1 in the first, Bubalo came back in the second, bringing the set to a tiebreak.
Durgu came back from a 1-5 deficit to tie the second 6-6, but Bubalo took charge gaining the 7-3 tiebreaker and taking the second set. In the final set, Bubalo began with a three-point streak, but fell short, 10-7, to lose the final set.
Finishing the day, Alexin matched up against Washing State's Maxine Murphy, falling in two equal sets, 6-4. Despite the loss, the Buff held a seven-point streak in the first set.
