BOULDER — The Colorado Buffaloes Lacrosse team wrapped up its 2026 fall exhibition slate Sunday, Oct. 25, at Columbia, concluding six dates of competition that provided valuable experience and opportunities for growth ahead of the 2027 season.
"We saw a lot of improvement across the board from Denver to Columbia," Head Coach Ann Elliott Whidden said.
Colorado opened its fall slate Sept. 26 against in-state rival Denver at Folsom Field, returning to the venue for the first time since the program's inaugural game in 2014. With Ralphie sprinting across the field and fans cheering from the stands, the Saturday morning exhibition marked a return to where Colorado lacrosse began its history in Boulder.
The Buffaloes remained at home for their annual Alumni Game on Oct. 2 at Kittredge Field, followed by an exhibition against Regis on Oct. 7 at the Ford Practice Facility. Colorado then welcomed Temple to Kittredge Field on Oct. 17, closing out its home portion of the fall schedule.
"It was an incredible opportunity for us to host Temple here," Whidden said. "We don't always get that extra game at home in the fall, and that was huge for us."
VALUABLE EXPERIENCE
The Buffs concluded the fall with a two-day East Coast trip, facing Rutgers, South Florida (USF) and UConn at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., on Saturday, Oct. 24, before meeting Columbia in New York, N.Y., on Sunday, Oct. 25.
"At Rutgers, we got to play three different teams with different styles of play on offense and defense," Whidden said. "It was a great opportunity for our team to grow and get experience. It was a fun and competitive environment where every player on our team got solid minutes against great opponents."
Columbia provided a different test on Sunday, as Colorado played a full game following Saturday's three exhibitions at Rutgers.
"At Columbia, it was awesome to play a full game and get more of a game-like feel," Whidden said. "They competed hard, and it was a great challenge for us to perform on short recovery. I think that will prove to be helpful down the stretch for this group, as we have many weekends with tough games back to back."
The fall slate gave Colorado an opportunity to keep developing after a historic 2026 campaign. The Buffaloes finished 16-4, tying the program record for wins in a season, captured their first Big 12 Tournament championship, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals for the first time in program history.
With the exhibition slate complete, Colorado turns its attention toward carrying that growth into the 2027 season.
