The Denver Nuggets began their preparation for the 2026-27 season by traveling north up US 36 to Boulder for a week of practices at the University of Colorado, culminating in an exhibition game against the Utah Jazz.
In addition to getting ready on the court, Nuggets players got to experience some of CU's pageantry off of it by attending the Buffs' homecoming football game against Texas Tech. Nuggets players including Nikola Jokic, Aaron Gordon, and DeMar DeRozan even got a chance to see Ralphie run up close from the field.
"Boulder's been fun," said rookie forward Trevon Brazile. "We got to go to a football game, which was a lot of fun. It's been a great week."
On Sunday, it was back to business as the Nuggets faced the Jazz in front of a spirited crowd of 7,860 fans at the CU Events Center. While Utah ended up holding on for the 109-97 win, fans were treated to an incredible behind-the-back pass from Jokic, who found Cameron Johnson across the court for a wide open three. At halftime, both CU men's and women's basketball teams were recognized as they gear up for their own respective seasons.
More than tuning up for the upcoming regular season, playing in Boulder was a chance for players and fans to enjoy an NBA game with a dash of college flair.
"It was nostalgic to be back in a college arena," said Nuggets guard Julian Strawther, who played three years of college ball at Gonzaga and finished the exhibition with a team-high 14 points. "It was cool to hear the student section chants. It was fun playing here."
The Nuggets will have four more preseason games before opening the 2026-27 regular season on Oct. 22 against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Oklahoma.
