Colorado Bests No. 20 Texas Tech on Senior Night

February 21, 2026 | Women's Basketball

BOULDER – The Colorado women's basketball team (20-8, 11-5 Big 12) defeated No. 20 Texas Tech (24-5, 11-5 Big 12), 75-68, at CU Events Center on Saturday, Feb. 21.

The Buffaloes played a close game against the Lady Raiders. After a strong start by Texas Tech in the first quarter, the Buffs pushed back and ended the half with a one-point difference. The Raiders held their lead during the third quarter, but in the fourth quarter, Colorado turned it around and came back to win the game, 75-68.

"I'm just really excited with how we played tonight on senior night," head coach JR Payne said. "You always want to win, we always want to play well, but to do it on senior night against a ranked team in the way that we did, to finish so strong and have so many people contribute. I haven't seen the stats, but I think we had a really balanced scoring night with many different people contributing in double figures, and our effort on the glass was unbelievable. It's really cool that we could get the win for our seniors, and now we have just one more home game. Great effort by our ball club."

Colorado had more bench points (32-23), points off turnovers (27-18), rebounds (34-18), steals (13-9) and second chance points (17-2) than Texas Tech. The game saw 13 lead changes and 10 ties, and CU managed 32 bench points and 17 second-chance points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas Tech opened the scoring in the first quarter with a three-point jumper and followed up quickly with another (6-0, TTU). Shortly after, Sr. F Anaëlle Dutat put Colorado on the board with a layup (6-2, TTU), which was quickly followed by Jr. G Zyanna Walker earning one point with a free throw (6-3, TTU). The Lady Raiders made another three-point shot (9-8, TTU). Texas Tech scored five more points, to which the Buffs responded with a three-pointer and a layup, both from Jr. G Desiree Wooten (14-13, TTU). The game was tied for the first time by a free throw shot from Walker (14-14). The Lady Raiders responded with two free throws, only to be tied again on a layup by Fr. F Logyn Greer (16-16). Texas Tech reclaimed the lead from a driving layup (18-16, TTU). After a three-point jumper by Fr. G Erianna Gooden, Colorado took their first lead of the game (19-18, CU). The quarter ended with a three-point jumper and a driving layup, both made by Texas Tech (23-19, TTU).

The second quarter began with a basket by Dutat, where she drew a foul, and made a free throw basket (23-22, CU). Wooten scored a second-chance three-point jumper, assisted by Dutat, putting the Buffs in the lead (25-23, CU). Texas Tech responded with a layup in the paint, tying the game (25-25). After two Texas Tech fouls, the Buffs made a second-chance jumper by Walker, followed quickly by a layup from the Lady Raiders, keeping the teams neck and neck (27-27). Greer regained the lead for the Buffaloes by making a jumper, bringing the score to 29-27 (CU). After several missed shots from both teams, Dutat made a jumper off a TTU turnover. Shortly after, Greer made a layup in the paint, assisted by Wooten (33-29, CU). The Lady Raiders made a shot, and So. F Tabitha Betson responded with a driving layup in the paint (35-31, CU). Texas Tech was able to snag the lead again following two free throws and a layup (43-42 TT). That lead was taken once again, followed by two good free throws from Sr. F Jade Masogayo (44-43, CU). After another foul on Texas Tech, Walker made a free throw, which was quickly followed by a jump shot by the Lady Raiders (45-45). Colorado did not allow the game to stay tied for long, as Masogayo scored a layup (47-45, CU). Following a three-point shot from the Lady Raiders, Greer regained the Buffs' lead with a jump shot (49-48, CU). The back and forth continued as Texas Tech scored a jump shot, which Greer responded to by scoring another jump shot, which was then followed by four Texas Tech layups and a free throw (59-51, TTU).  Colorado was able to make its way back into the scoring column with a layup from Betson (59-53, TTU).

With a steal by Wooten, Walker made a layup in the paint on the fast break, tying the game (61-61). With each team drawing a foul, both scored two points from their respective free throws, keeping the game tied (63-63). Dutat made a second-chance jumper off a TTU turnover, allowing the Buffs to take the lead for the first time in the fourth quarter (65-63, CU). After drawing a personal foul, Walker successfully shot two free throws, furthering the lead for the Buffaloes (67-63, CU). Masogayo drew another foul, leading to two more points from free throws for the Buffs, along with two points from the Lady Raiders for their free throws (69-65, CU). Shortly after, Texas Tech made a three-pointer, and the Buffs responded with a jumper from Wooten (71-68, CU). With less than one minute remaining in the game, the Raiders called a timeout.
