March 10, 2026 | Tennis

BOULDER – Colorado's Aya El Sayed earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors, following a successful upset for the Buffaloes this Sunday, and a ranked victory for El Sayed.

Despite a team loss on Friday, El Sayed went undefeated in singles play this weekend, downing Kansas State's Maralgoo Chogsomjav and picking up an upset on Sunday over No. 53 Olivia Lincer in straight sets.

The Alexandria, Egypt, native has picked up eight ranked career singles and doubles victories in her time at CU. She currently holds a season singles record of 5-5, as well as 5-5 in doubles.

El Sayed holds the team's highest career singles victories at 55, as well as impressive CU records in tennis. She sits at No. 30 in CU history for highest total wins, No. 10 in singles wins at the No. 1 spot, No. 35 in combined singles and doubles wins (96), and tied at No. 5 with partner Pia Rebec for most doubles wins at the No. 1 spot (14).

The last time a CU tennis player received this honor was in 2023, when Antonia Balzert did so, with Colorado still in the Pac-12. The last Big 12 player of the week for the Buffs was Monica Milewski in 2010, making El Sayed the third player to earn the award since 2010.
