BOULDER – Colorado middle-distance standout Avery Pearson has been named to Team Canada for the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships, Athletics Canada announced Monday.
Pearson will represent Canada in the women's 800 meters at the global championship meet. The 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships are scheduled to take place March 20–22 in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland, at Arena Torun.Â
The selection caps a historic indoor season for the Colorado senior. Earlier this year, Pearson became the first Buff to break the two-minute barrier indoors in the 800 meters, running 1:59.98 at altitude, a new Colorado program record.Â
Her raw time of 2:00.76 ranks No. 6 all-time in Canadian indoor history and No. 3 among NCAA indoor performances run at altitude.
Pearson also captured the 600-yard title at the Big 12 Indoor Championships, winning the event in meet-record fashion and further cementing her place among the top middle-distance runners in the country.
Pearson will compete in the women's 800 meters this weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships, with the first round scheduled for Friday, March 13 at 5:25 p.m. MT, where she will look to challenge the Canadian indoor record of 1:59.87.
